Reflected Me/Projected We (Muhammad Ali, 1967 Harvard University Commencement Speech) 1-4

1-3 are 48" x 52" x 48", 4 is 240" x 144" x 72"

The first three in the series are digital video projections of WE, reflected in the mirror as ME, The fourth is a light projection of WE on the verticle surface which is reflected from the horizontal ME stenciled in clear seal on the mirror.

As the viewers approach they are engaged in the work by seeing themselves in the horizontal ME while simultaneously generating a shadow into the projected WE.

Me/We

“Me, We” is a quotation from Muhammad Ali’s 1967 Harvard University Commencement Speech. During his speech he had started to wander and the restless graduates suddenly called for a poem, to which he replied “Me,” pointing to himself, and “We,” pointing to himself and the entire assembly.
